HRH Prince Seeiso Bereng Seeiso of Lesotho visits.
01 December 2011
Sheffield FC, the World’s First Football Club, were recently honoured with a visit to their BT Local Business Stadium in Dronfield by HRH Prince Seeiso Bereng Seeiso of Lesotho.
Prince Seeiso, the younger brother of Lesotho's king, Letsie III, and son of the southern African country's late King Moshoeshoe II and the late Queen Mamohato Bereng Seeiso, is the current Lesotho High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Prince Seeiso, a keen football fan and supporter of Liverpool FC, was in Dronfield to meet with club chairman Richard Tims and Community Manager, Lee Walshaw, for discussions about the club’s ‘Boots For Africa’ programme and how it might be able to help in Lesotho.
The prince is keen to improve the lives of young people in Lesotho and give them an education and future. In April 2006, along with Prince Harry, he formed a charity called Sentebale to support organizations working with Lesotho's disadvantaged young people and children, particularly those orphaned as a result of HIV and AIDS. Boots For Africa is looking at ways it can help the people of Lesotho, by not only supplying them with football boots but also the possibility of a coaching programme to raise the standard of both players and coaches alike.
Club Chairman, Richard Tims, was enthusiastic about the visit and the future: ‘It was an honour to meet Prince Seeiso and to explain to him the role Sheffield FC has played in the development of football worldwide. We are looking forward to helping him further his projects with the young people in Lesotho through our Boots For Africa campaign and see exciting times ahead.’
