PEAK 2010 - DERBYSHIRE SCOUT & GUIDE INTERNATIONAL CAMP

Peak-2010-Boots-for-AfricaAt the end of July the Derbyshire Scout and Guide International Camp - PEAK 2010, which is held every five years, took place in Chatsworth Park. The whole event ethos was ‘One World Our World’, and there were many activities organised around the theme of ‘peace’, ‘issues’ and ‘looking after the environment,’ which involved representatives from Oxfam, Sightsavers, Save the Children and CAFOD (Catholic Overseas Development Agency).

With around 4,000 young people from 16 different countries attending, they decided to ask the children to scour their houses, schools and local football clubs to try and find any unwanted football boots to donate to Boots For Africa.

Jean Owen, the Event Co-ordinator, said “We are extremely proud to have been involved with Boots For Africa, the appeal truly is fantastic.”

The Scouts and Guides even helped to clean up, pair up and bag up all the boots that were donated and overall they managed to collect over a 200 pairs of football boots and we also managed to sell some of the Boots For Africa boot bags, with all proceeds go towards funding the Boots For Africa appeal.

Jenny Tims, Project Manager for Boots For Africa enthused “The support of the Scouts and Guides is great as it helps to draw attention and support of other children their age to the Boots For Africa appeal.”

“…the pleasure has been mine in working closely with you. Along this journey we have learnt a lot and hopefully we shall produce stars that would one day play Sheffield and other clubs in the UK. “
