LOCAL BUSINESS SETS CHARITY’S WHEELS IN MOTION.
13 August 2010
Local Ford commercial vehicles centre Dagenham Motors on River Road, Barking has helped the charity Boots For Africa with the loan of a new Ford Transit van.
The charity will use the van to travel around the country collecting second-hand football boots that have been donated by the general public for deprived children in countries across Africa who would otherwise play the game barefoot.
All 22 Dagenham Motors dealerships across London, including in Ripple Road, Barking, are playing their role in collecting football boots for the charity, as well as a further 20 dealerships owned by parent company Ford Retail around the rest of the country. Many other organisations also provide collection points for Boots For Africa which the van will be visiting.Shaun Allen, head of commercial sales at Dagenham Motors, said “We are thrilled to be supporting Boots For Africa. The charity does a great job distributing thousands of boots to underprivileged African children and we hope that our Transit van will help even more boots find their way to Africa.”
Ian Feeley of Boots For Africa expressed delight, saying: “Boots For Africa is really taking off and we’re getting more and more boots being collected by a growing number of collection points. The donation of the van has come at just the right time.”
Boots For Africa is a charity set up by Sheffield FC after its chairman saw children in the poverty-ridden townships of Africa playing football in their bare feet. The charity collects and distributes football boots to those without access to basic facilities that are taken for granted in the UK.
Boots can be dropped off during opening hours at Dagenham Motors on River Road and Ripple Road throughout August. For more information about the appeal itself, visit www.bootsforafrica.org .
